Etymology
The earlier sense was a sanctimonious person or religious hypocrite. The label broadened beyond religion to someone obstinately intolerant of other opinions or groups.
In context
it is not that the reviewer is a bigot it's that these are the beliefs that have permeated their consciousness for their entire life
