noun

follower

FAH-loh-er/ˈfɑːləʊər/

Someone who moves after another person and follows that person's course.

The follower steps in the man's fresh footprints, taking the same winding route.

A woman follows closely in a man's fresh footprints across a small patch of snow, watching him and deliberately taking the same winding route.
Etymology

Following already included accompanying someone as a disciple and obeying a guide. A follower can therefore be someone who adopts another's leadership or example, as well as someone who physically goes behind that person.
