Etymology
Old English hon meant to suspend something. It merged with hangian, meaning to be suspended, so modern hang covers both putting something in suspension and remaining suspended.
In context
hang your curtains pretty high and just get a longer curtain that way it meets the floor if you put the curtain rod right above the window
