Etymology
Body fluids were once thought to determine temperament, giving humor the sense “mood.” Its meaning then shifted to funniness, probably through “whim” or “caprice”—a fancy arising from someone’s state of mind.
In context
the performances from Midler and Tomlin are highly amusing. However, to me, the silly humor did start to feel a little bit repetitive.
