Etymology
News originally meant “new things,” then came to mean reports of things that had recently happened. Its plural ending survives even though we now usually treat the information collectively as singular.
In context
this newspaper would be a good sour source of information on the Jackson presidency the Democratic party or the federal government but it is probably not the best source for news about businesses or rural life
