A point where parts of a network or larger system connect.
The central plaza forms a node where four garden paths meet.
Etymology
The original image is a knot. The word later came to mean a point of intersection, first in astronomy where an orbit crosses the ecliptic, connecting that image with a meeting point of lines or pathways.
In context
if there are lines on both sides of a node there will be no handles at all each path will have at least one larger node in green
