Etymology
Quibble is probably a diminutive of quib, an evasion of the point at issue. Its early senses of wordplay and evasive argument connect it with disputing minor details rather than addressing the main point.

not going to quibble with his words but what he said it is you know he didn't say I didn't have any knowledge about how Steven died. He said I didn't have anything to do with it.
