Etymology
Middle Dutch slim meant “slanting” or “crooked.” The development toward graceful thinness seems to have passed through “slight, insignificant,” shifting from an oblique shape to a slender build.
In context
He was kind of slim, but he had a lot of muscle, too. Probably the way Davy Crockett would look with his shirt off, maybe.
