Etymology
Soda originally named an alkali, whose name has uncertain deeper origins. The drink sense shortens “soda water”: although soda itself largely disappeared as an ingredient, the name remained for carbonated water flavored and sweetened with syrups.

if you just want something sweet go well you know what just drink a different soda or i guess this isn't a soda but a different drink these are actually all pretty good
