Etymology
The connection is to making things square: the English noun first named a mason’s or carpenter’s tool for measuring right angles, then came to name the geometric shape itself.
In context
There is even a special symbol that we use to show when an angle is a right angle. Because they form square corners, we use a little square instead of the arc that we use for the other angles.
