Etymology
Greek tigris already named the animal. A possible connection with Iranian words for “sharp” or “arrow” has been interpreted as referring to its pounce, but those words are not known to have named the tiger.

A tawny, black-striped figure flickered in and out of view, moving slowly. The brush rustled, but there was no other sound. The fierce tiger walked without a sound, without a low growl.
