Etymology
Originally an imitation of a ray-weapon's supposed sound in science-fiction comics, zap became a verb meaning “kill” or “do away with.” The sound effect conveys the sudden force of the action.
In context
They can see me, but they zap me as well with their sonar. They are making a sound picture of me.
